Summertime and Over Halfway!

Summer is upon us! I now have about two and a half months to raise about $7,300 (I am currently a little over halfway at about $7,700). It isa steep climb, but the Lord has been faithful thus far and I know that he will get me to the end one way or another. I have been inspired recently by my Mom, who had a $10,000 goal to meet toward a new building for our church in Haiti. If she could raise $10,000, a businessman in the U.S. had told her, he would match it. With less than two weeks to go, however, she had only been able to raise $1,600. Things didn’t look too good. At the last minute, the money came pouring in — she actually ended up with $2,000 more than she had been aiming for! So I am not worried. I know I’m in the shadow of the Lord’s hand and he will provide in a way that maximizes his glory and brings me joy. Cuban Roommate

Speaking of eleventh-hour provision, I am marveling lately at the goodness of God in providing a place to live for Angel, my new Cuban roommate. Angel is a refugee who was brought in through World Relief, a Christian humanitarian organization with whom I volunteer. Barbara, the office director, had been trying to find him a place to live for over a month, but it is next to impossible to find affordable housing for a single man, especially when he does not even yet have a Social Security number! If she did not have a place for him by last Friday, she would have had to send him on to Greensboro and allow another office to try and settle him. At the last minute, our third roommate, had to move out and a spot opened up. We brought him in and interviewed him, and he was a perfect fit for the house! A Cuban Pentecostal man, full of wisdom and the Holy Spirit, now lives in my house. I believe the Lord brought him to us for a reason. I’m not sure what that is yet, but I’m excited to find out.

Prayer Requests

  • Please pray that I would be able to reach my goal of $15,000 before summer’s end!
  • Please pray for grace upon my preparation to teach classes in Haiti. There is a lot of work to do before then.
  • Please pray that I would be able to balance the workload of a hectic, full-time summer job, community group leadership, a teaching trip to WV, preparing to teach, and moving to another country.

May the Lord bless you! If I can pray for you in any way, please do not hesitate to ask!
